Character of the Music and the Dance

Love and desire is what this dance is all about. It is a slow dance that is both seductive and sweet at the same time. It is know for its intricate Cuban motion and its slow to sharp actions that contrast each other. The connection between partners is all about being absorbed in one another. The Rhythm style of this dance is used commonly on the social dance floor and in competition. The music tends to be faster then its Latin sibling.

The music will have a very soft yet strong Boom sound that lingers for two beats until followed by two quick clicking sounds. Often there will be a shaking sound or you will hear the Guiro rattling in the background. Many of the more Pop like songs that are danced in Rhythm style tend to replace the traditional instruments with Guitar or Drums

Sample Descriptions

TRADITIONAL:
The speed of the music adds some energy to the dance however the instruments and the Boooom-Tick-Tick is maintained throughout

SOFT:
The Guitar creates the primary beat. It adds a little bit more of a Cuban flair with the clicking sound added in. Booooom-Tick-Boom

STRINGS:
This one moves away from more of the traditional sounds but uses string instruments to maintain the base Rhythm of Rumba
